Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Antonio Brown has faced accusations of sexual assault, rape, sexual misconduct, battery, burglary and criminal mischief over the past two years. Some offered objections via Twitter when Thursday Night Football analyst and former Cincinnati Bengals receiver Cris Collinsworth described the allegations as "some off-the-field stuff" during NBC's broadcast of the Bucs' season-opening win against the Dallas Cowboys.
The NFL announced last July that it suspended Brown - a free agent at the time - eight games for multiple violations of the league's personal-conduct policy.
"Antonio Brown - when you look at some of the numbers that he's put up in his career, and of course you've got that million-dollar smile of his - they're just remarkable," Collinsworth said during the fourth quarter of Thursday night's Bucs-Cowboys broadcast. "I mean it's just almost unbelievable what he's been able to do. And yet because of some off-the-field stuff, he sort of faded to the background until last year. He really had a lot to do with that Super Bowl championship."
A few of the Twitter reactions:
Collinsworth, 62, was a three-time Pro Bowler for the Bengals who spent his entire NFL career (1981-88) with Cincinnati.
