McNally, Gauff upset top doubles seed and reach U.S. Open semifinals

Madeira's Caty McNally and doubles partner Coco Gauff upset top-seeded Hsieh Su-wei and Elise Mertens, 6-3, 7-6 (1), on Wednesday to reach the semifinals at the U.S. Open.

Knocking off the 2021 Wimbledon champions advanced the No. 11 seed to its first-ever Grand Slam semifinal in doubles.

The doubles team nicknamed "McCoco" will face No. 5 Luisa Stefani and Gabriela Dabrowski in the semifinals. 

McNally and Gauff teamed up in doubles at last month's Western & Southern Open at Lindner Family Tennis Center. It was Gauff's first appearance in Cincinnati.

McNally and Gauff have won two WTA titles together in doubles. They reached the semifinals in San Jose. They reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, and the Round of 16 at Wimbledon.
