The new emergency department and urgent care at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center opened Saturday morning. The new emergency department is made of up 90,000 square feet, which is three times the size of the previous one. The hospital says the expansion will provide more care for patients, access to essential medical services and include state-of-the-art mental health treatment rooms. The facility will be equipped with a 24-hour pharmacy as well as receiving MRIs, X-rays, CT scans or ultrasounds all in one building. There are 12 new treatment rooms for patients with behavioral or mental health concerns that will be specialized to the specific needs of the patients.The emergency department also features 60 treatment rooms including five trauma bays, a decontamination center, a research lab and two trauma elevators with direct access to the helipad and intensive care.
