The Reds have 1/2-game lead over the Padres in the wild-card standings

The Cincinnati Reds moved 1/2 game ahead of the San Diego Padres in the National League wild-card standings with a win in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the St. Louis Cardinals, following the Padres' loss earlier in the evening to the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

The Reds have 27 games remaining in the 2021 Major League Baseball season, while the Padres have 28.

The Reds split their doubleheader against the Cardinals, losing 5-4 in Game 1 but winning 12-2 in Game 2. The Padres fell 8-3 to the D'backs.

The Reds are 72-63 entering a scheduled day off Thursday. The Padres are 71-63 - also with a day off Thursday.

The Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies trail the Reds by 2 1/2 games in the standings.
