Minnesota Vikings defensive backs coach Daronte Jones is expected to be named the Louisiana State University Tigers' new defensive coordinator, according to a report Monday night via Twitter from FOX Sports' Bruce Feldman.
Jones coached the Cincinnati Bengals' secondary/cornerbacks in 2018 and 2019 before spending the 2020 season with the Vikings. The Bengals did not renew Jones' contract after the 2019 season.
ESPN's Adam Rittenberg reported Saturday night that Jones would interview for the LSU job on Sunday.
Before his two seasons in Cincinnati, Jones was an assistant defensive backs coach for the Miami Dolphins.
Former University of Cincinnati Bearcats defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman interviewed earlier this month for LSU's position, and Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron said Freeman was their top candidate before Freeman instead left for Notre Dame.
In December, LSU parted ways with Bo Pelini, the Tigers' defensive coordinator last season.
