Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto has been known to celebrate home runs during his impressive power surge of the past several weeks by doing what Jamie Tartt - a character from "Ted Lasso" on Apple TV+ - would do after scoring a goal.
And after he saw a young Reds fan on the video board wearing a Votto jersey and hat in the left-field bleachers at Great American Ball Park doing the same thing - as The Enquirer's Bobby Nightengale wrote - he pointed to the boy during his home-run trot in the fourth inning of the Reds' 6-1 win against the Miami Marlins on Thursday night, and gave him a shoutout during a postgame interview with Bally Sports Ohio's Jim Day.
"I did (point to the boy). Tyler Naquin told me. We were laughing about the boy in between innings and I said, 'Where is he?'" Votto told Day. "And he pointed him out in the left-field bleachers. I don't know. I was just stoked that I had the opportunity to spot him as I was rounding the bases, and I hope he spotted me back. And then late in the game - right before we went out for the 9th inning - he was waving to me and pointing and stuff, and doing the thing. And then I waved back and he ended up catching me. And I caught him. So it was great, yeah."
The young fan also visited the set of Bally Sports Ohio's post-game show, holding an autographed ball. He was identified by the man holding him as a four-year-old named Marshall.
