Consumerism, meet climate change.
This may come as a shock to many Americans: Our obsession with buying stuff helps drive climate change, according to The Columbia Climate School at Columbia University in New York. The school also points to a 2020 United Nations report that found "the combined emissions of the richest 1 percent of the global population account for more than twice the combined emissions of the poorest 50 percent."
