The Minnesota Vikings hired former Cincinnati Bengals and Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Paul Guenther as a senior defensive assistant, according to an announcement by the team Thursday afternoon.
Guenther was an assistant coach and defensive coordinator for the Bengals from 2005 to 2017. He and Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer worked together on the Bengals' coaching staff from 2008 to 2013, when Zimmer was Cincinnati's defensive coordinator.
Guenther replaced Zimmer as the Bengals' defensive coordinator in 2014 when Zimmer became Minnesota's head coach.
The Raiders fired Guenther in December. He had been the team's defensive coordinator since leaving the Bengals in 2018 to take the job.
In 2019, Guenther criticized the 12-game suspension of Raiders (and former Bengals) linebacker Vontaze Burfict by referring to it as "a witch hunt from the beginning."
The Vikings announced Wednesday that former Miami University standout receiver Martin Nance will be the team's new executive vice president and chief marketing officer.
