Cincinnati City councilmember to host Price Hill safety forum


On Wednesday night, Price Hill neighbors have the chance to have their voices heard.Cincinnati Councilmember Betsy Sundermann is set to host a public safety forum. While it is open to the public, Sundermann says it will focus on the east, west and Price Hill communities.It's the latest public safety meeting after Councilmember Jan-Michele Lemon Kearney held a similar public meeting for the Westwood community in July.Sunderman says she wanted to host the meeting after noticing an increase in pedestrian crashes, gun violence and domestic violence cases in the Price Hill area.According to city data, while cases of pedestrian crashes, violence and shootings are on the rise, cases number are statistically lower for all three Price Hill communities as compared with year-to-date data with the exception of shootings in Lower Price Hill.Sundermann told WLWT she invited community leaders, law enforcement and safety advocates to listen to neighbor's concerns and proposed solutions. She said solutions for improvement safety in Cincinnati neighborhoods will take a individual approach instead of a "one size fits all" solution."If they need help in the community, building support in the community, I can help with that," Sundermann said of her abilities to see the momentum of the meeting last beyond one night. "Outside of Council, if they need funding from council for something, I will have to make a motion for council. If they need help with the police, I can help them there to talk to the police, so we'll have to see what the solutions are."East Price Hill Improvement Association Community Council President Sheila Rosenthal says she will be present to advocate for further pedestrian safety and youth employment opportunities. She says while she has been fighting for East Price Hill for years, she cannot continue alone."I would say that your voice is the only one that really matters," Rosenthal said of those considering on attending Wednesday's meeting. "And that if you have something to say, it's very important that you say it. Because to stay quiet, is to allow things to continue as they are."The Price Hill public safety forum is set for 6 p.m. at the Warsaw Federal Incline Theater at 801 Matson Place.Sundermann said she plans to host another safety forum in the Avondale community at a later date.
