According to Baseball Savant, Votto led MLB in 2018 by hitting the ball with the sweet spot of his bat 40.7 percent of the time. In 2019, he ranked 98th in that metric. In 2020, he ranked 46th.
“The most important hitters are usually (high) in that barrels category,” Votto said. “Those are the hitters that you see on MLB Network or ESPN’s commercials or you see doing some really cool bat flip on Twitter that you forward to your buddies or forward to fans in that particular city. Those are the players that are the most fun. I kind of miss being in that group.”
