Cincinnati Reds’ Hunter Greene ejected from Louisville Bats game

Cincinnati Reds top pitching prospect Hunter Greene was ejected from a start at Triple-A Louisville in the top of the third inning Tuesday at Louisville Slugger Field.

Greene, who missed his last start because of irritation in his right AC joint, was tossed by the umpires after he threw a 102-mph fastball behind Johan Camargo's backside. Camargo homered off Greene in the first inning and Greene had just surrendered a home run to Orlando Arcia on his previous pitch.

Louisville Bats' Hunter Greene (3) delivers a pitch against the Indianapolis Indians at Slugger Field in Louisville, Ky. on June 23, 2021.

Camargo and the Gwinnett Stripers bench took exception to the fastball, apparently thinking it was intentional. Some players shouted at Greene from the dugout. Home-plate umpire, Tom Hanahan, gave Greene another baseball after the wild pitch before the three umpires conferred in the infield.

As the umpires continued their discussion, Gwinnett catcher Ryan Casteel was ejected from the team's dugout. Once the umpires concluded their chat with each other, Greene was ejected and both benches were warned.

Louisville manager Pat Kelly came out of the dugout to argue after Greene was ejected and he became the third person ejected from the incident.

Greene allowed four runs on four hits (three homers) and one walk in 2 2/3 innings Tuesday, striking out four. He threw 45 pitches, 27 strikes.
