Good afternoon. Ever spend hours looking for something that never turns up? Been one of those days. I had a great photo of Pat Barry with the kids from about 10 years ago that sadly must've gotten deleted at some point.
Pat had a larger-than-life personality - in a good way. He had a great sense of humor and a way with people. But why have so many people - as tributes to Pat have poured in via social media since he passed away over the weekend - said he was everyone's friend, a stranger to no one? Why did everyone like him so much? What was it about him?
It wasn't just that he was outgoing or personable, because you can be both in a sort of less than genuine way. Not Pat. Pat was as genuine as they come. He had famous friends - he lived the life of a Cincinnati celebrity for years. But when you had a conversation with him, you'd never know. He was down to earth and he listened. That seems like an increasingly rare combo: a good storyteller and a good listener. And he really had a big heart.
