WINTON WOODS - One of the more highly-recruited girls basketball players in the country made her decision via Instagram Live Sunday afternoon when Chance Gray announced her college choice.
With her final two picks being her father's alma mater, UCLA, and Oregon, Gray made her decision known in a parking lot along with older sister Amber as both appeared in green Oregon Ducks shirts.
"Let's go Ducks!" Gray shouted.
Also, as speculated when her father Carlton Gray was named head girls basketball coach at Winton Woods in April, his daughters will be dressed in Warriors blue and green this season.
Oldest daughter Amber Gray was already in the fold as the former McDonald's, Parade and USA Today All-American had been assisting with Andy Fishman and her father at Lakota West.
What was not known definitively was whether three-year starter Chance Gray would leave Lakota West also for a senior season at Winton Woods.
That question was answered and confirmed and Sunday. The Greater Miami Conference scoring leader (25 points per game) and First Team All-Ohio selection will give the Warriors a three-Gray attack. Gray's social media accounts had indicated the move most of the summer.
Carlton Gray was a multi-sport standout at the old Forest Park High School which merged with Greenhills to form Winton Woods. He played at UCLA from 1989 to 1992, making their Hall of Fame and being a National Football Foundation scholar-athlete.
A second-round NFL pick in 1993 by the Seahawks, Gray also played for the Colts, Giants and Chiefs. In addition to coaching girls basketball, he is also defensive coordinator for the Winton Woods football team, a job he also held at Lakota West with Firebirds coach Tom Bolden.
Amber Gray played women's basketball in college at Tennessee and Xavier and professionally overseas. She'll be added support for Chance as she settles in at a new school with her college decision now completed.
