Driver strikes police officer in police chase that crossed Ohio River


Authorities say a driver struck a police officer during a police chase that crossed the Ohio River. Chelsea Knipper, 31, was arrested early Friday on numerous charges. It all started in Alexandria, Kentucky. That’s where officials with the Ohio State Highway Patrol say they responded to reports of a “suspicious person in a parking lot.”Troopers say they found Knipper, who was reported to have multiple warrants, inside of her vehicle. As authorities approached her car, troopers say she fled, striking an Alexandria police officer while fleeing. That officer only suffered minor injuries. A pursuit ensued onto Interstate 275 in Union Township, as Knipper crossed a bridge and entered Ohio. Investigators say her vehicle, at times, hit speeds above 125 mph. Eventually, authorities followed her vehicle into Hamilton County. Stop sticks were deployed, but that vehicle continued to flee. Knipper exited the interstate and went onto Montgomery Road, troopers said, before her car was brought to a stop using a PIT maneuver. Knipper was taken into custody. Officials with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said she was found to be under the influence, although of what substance remains unclear. Knipper was treated for minor injuries and was jailed in the Clermont County Jail.Multiple agencies were involved, including the Alexandria Police Department, Miami Township Police Department and the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.
