CHICAGO – The Cincinnati Reds' bullpen has the highest ERA in the Majors, but some help is on the way.
The Reds acquired right-hander Luis Cessa and lefty Justin Wilson in a trade with the New York Yankees on Tuesday in exchange for a player to be named later, the team announced.
Cessa, 29, has been solid this season with a 2.82 ERA across 29 appearances. He's struck out 31 and walked 17 in 38 1/3 innings. He's under team control for the next two seasons, eligible for arbitration next winter.
Wilson has pitched in the Majors for 10 seasons and the Reds will be his sixth club. The 33-year-old has struggled this year with a 7.50 ERA in 21 outings. He's yielded 18 hits and 17 runs (15 earned) in 18 innings, striking out 15 and walking nine.
The Reds designated right-handers Ashton Goudeau and Edgar García for assignment to make room for the new relievers on the 40-man roster.
