For the second consecutive year, the Cincinnati Bengals defensive line isn't at full strength heading into training camp.
On Sunday, the Bengals announced that rookie defensive ends Cam Sample and Wyatt Hubert will be on the Active/Non-Football Injury list heading into training camp. The Bengals also placed defensive tackle Renell Wren on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list.

While Sample and Hubert were full participants during OTAs, Wren continued to rehab from a quadriceps injury that occurred during 2020 training camp. Wren missed the entire 2020 season, and during OTAs he did agility drills on a side field with other rehabbing Bengals players.
The Bengals drafted Sample in the fourth round and drafted Hubert in the seventh round this year. When healthy, they both are expected to have the opportunity to compete for a backup role on the defensive line and play multiple positions.
Without those three players, the Bengals have available 12 defensive linemen, including five defensive ends and seven defensive tackles.

Gaillard, a 2019 sixth round pick from the University of Georgia, has played in 13 NFL games with two starts.
Gaillard adds depth at center with Bengals starter Trey Hopkins recovering from a knee injury at the end of the 2020 season. The Bengals now have four centers on the roster: Hopkins, Billy Price, Gaillard and Bengals sixth round pick Trey Hill.
In 2018, Hill backed up Gaillard on the offensive line at Georgia. In 2021, they'll compete against each other for a role on the Bengals offensive line.
