The New York Yankees announced Thursday that pitcher Asher Wojciechowski was designated for assignment, and the team selected pitcher Sal Romano from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Both pitched for the Reds in 2017, Wojciechowski's only season in Cincinnati. He posted a 6.50 ERA in 25 appearances.
In his debut Thursday night for the Yankees, Romano got two outs and allowed one hit in a 5-4 loss to the Boston Red Sox.
Romano, designated for assignment by the Reds earlier this season after he pitched in 83 games over five big-league seasons in Cincinnati, was signed by the Yankees in May to a minor-league deal and assigned to the RailRiders.
Romano, 27, elected free agency after clearing waivers. He posted a 5.23 ERA in 14 appearances for the Reds this season, and a 5.15 ERA for the team since his 2017 debut for Cincinnati. He was selected by the Reds in the 23rd round of the 2011 draft.
