Brandon Allen is returning to the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Bengals are re-signing Allen to a one-year contract, according to a source. NFL Network was the first to report the news.
Allen started five games in his first season with the Bengals in 2020. The quarterback did an admirable job filling in for Joe Burrow when the 2020 NFL Draft No. 1 overall pick sustained a season-ending left knee injury.
The veteran quarterback completed 90 of 142 passes for 925 yards to go with 5 touchdowns and 4 interceptions, resulting in a 82 passer rating. He went 1-4 as a starter, collecting an upset win versus the Houston Texans.
Allen originally signed with the Bengals last season on a one-year deal after spending the 2019 season with the Denver Broncos and two years with the Los Angeles Rams.
The veteran quarterback is attractive to the Bengals because of his familiarity with Zac Taylor's system. He provides a veteran presence and is a capable No. 2 QB behind Burrow.
