In a special virtual event Thursday, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center is addressing the challenges and the importance of Black women in the fight for both racial and gender equality. The discussion is titled "Unapologetically Speaking; Unpacking Black Feminism." Topics will dive into the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, unpack protests against systemic racism and the fight for equity. "Sometimes you just want to take off your fighting boots and just rest, but these systems that oppress us never take a break. We constantly have to be working to challenge and identify these systems of oppression," said Dr. Carolette Norwood, Professor of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies.
