The Cincinnati Zoo has a new resident. Blackwell, a pygmy slow loris, now calls Cincinnati home. She's currently living behind the scenes, getting used to her new home. When acclimated, she will call the zoo's Jungle Trails exabit home. A pygmy slow loris is the world's only known venomous primate, a highly unusual characteristic among mammals. According to officials with the San Diego Zoo, the pint-sized creatures can produce "a secretion from glands on the insides of its elbows, which, when mixed with its saliva, serves to venomize its bite."Other venomous mammals beside the slow loris include a duck-billed platypus, vampire bats and some shrews and moles.
