DENVER – A few days before Jesse Winker left for the All-Star Game at Colorado’s Coors Field, he saw his Joe Morgan jersey hanging in his closet.
It sparked an idea.
Winker wore Morgan’s No. 8 Reds jersey, a gray uniform, when he walked the red carpet prior to the All-Star Game on Tuesday. He asked the Morgan family for permission to wear the uniform beforehand and the family approved.
“Before I came out here, I had (Reds clubhouse manager) Rick Stowe reach out to the Morgan family,” Winker said. “I just thought for the red carpet thing, I’d pay tribute to him and just represent Cincinnati in a way that I thought everybody would be proud of.”
