Two weekends, two cities, so much goetta goodness.
Glier’s Goettafest has announced its 2021 schedule, and this year's festivities are expanding from Newport to Covington for eight days of games, music and goetta-centric grub.
The festival will run from July 29 to Aug. 1 and Aug. 5 to 8. Hours will be from 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday; noon to 11 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Attendees can cruise back and forth from Goettafest East in Newport’s Festival park and Goettafest West in Covington Plaza on a riverboat shuttle all day for $5, and children under 12 can ride at no cost. Admission to the festival is free.
For the fanatics, there will be a goetta vending machine, history booth and souvenirs. The festival will also offer inflatables, games, axe throwing, a mechanical bull, slot cars and continuous live music on three stages.
Get some goetta in dozens of inventive dishes, from mac ‘n’ cheese and coney dogs to brownies and doughnuts.
The annual festival began in 2001 as a single-day event in Covington. Throughout the years, it expanded and moved from Sawyer’s Point to Newport’s Riverfront Levee. This is the first year it will span across the two cities, according to a news release.
