The community has raised more than $10,000 for the family of a 19-year-old who was shot and killed in Winton Hills last week.The shooting happened in the 5300 block of Winneste Avenue Thursday at around 10:11 p.m.According to the Cincinnati Police Department, James Walker Jr., 19, was located at the scene in a car with headlights still on. Police said Walker was shot in the head.He was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment. He succumbed to his injuries on Friday.Jessica Boatner created a GoFundMe fundraiser to help the family honor Walker's memory. The GoFundMe benefits Found Village in Cincinnati, which is an organization that "rebuild(s) foundational trust in youth who have faced abuse, neglect, or related traumas at home or through the system by connecting them with an audacious and intentional community of relational resources," according to the Found Village's website.Boatner, who is the advisory board chair at Found Village, said Walker was part of the Found Village community. She said he was one of the first boys she met at the Village and said he was "full of life and charisma"According to Boatner, she and the Found Village would like to support Walker's family in any way possible, whether that be to help with funeral costs, missed work or cost-related moves."It won’t take away the pain, but can allow his mother to not worry about this during the most difficult time," Boatner wrote in the GoFundMe post.As of Monday, the community has raised $10,435 on the GoFundMe.
