Child hospitalized, man in custody after domestic incident turns into SWAT situation at Queensgate hotel


A child was seriously injured and a man has been taken into custody after a domestic incident turned into a SWAT situation at a hotel in Queensgate Friday.The incident started around 10:30 a.m. at the Quality Inn on West Eighth Street where officers responded to a domestic situation. Officers on scene found a girl, around two years old, who was severely injured. The child was taken to Children’s Hospital where she is in stable condition with serious injuries.A man involved in the incident, who is not believed to be the father, then barricaded himself in a room. That's when a SWAT team was called in to bring the man into custody. Officers used a flashbang to try to subdue him. When the man refused to come out, SWAT officers made contact with him, shooting him in the side using a small foam round.The man then surrendered and was taken by police to the hospital to be checked out. Police believe a third person may have been involved in the incident but aren't releasing details at this time. West 8th Street was shut down for several hours due to the incident.
