Gov. Mike DeWine on Monday agreed to send 14 Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers to Texas to help with border surveillance.
DeWine said in a press release that he was sending the troopers for two weeks at the request of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. The Ohio troopers will not be making arrests.
Abbott and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, both Republicans, asked every state to send law enforcement to help and even make arrests of migrants who illegally crossed the border. The governors of Florida, South Dakota and others have offered police and state patrol officers in response.

Roughly 115 soldiers from the Ohio National Guard's 1484th Transportation Company are on active duty at the southern border at the request of the federal Department of Homeland Security and National Guard Bureau.
DeWine also agreed last week to send another 185 guardsmen to the southern border later this year. The Ohio Army National Guard members will provide non-law enforcement support to Custom and Border Protection starting in late 2021.
On Friday, the Ohio National Guard finished its mission to help food banks across Ohio during the coronavirus pandemic.
