An Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper was taken to the hospital Friday night after being injured in a crash that involved an impaired driver, according to the Dayton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. According to a press release, Trooper Charles Barnette was conducting a traffic stop on U.S. 35 west at James H. McGee Boulevard with a 2009 BMW when a 2013 Toyota Corolla hit the BMW which pushed into and injured the trooper. Officials said occupants in the BMW were not injured in the crash. The driver of the Toyota Corolla and the state trooper were transported to Miami Valley Hospital Friday evening.The driver suffered minor injuries while the state trooper suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to officials. Investigators say preliminary reports indicate drug impairment and distracted driving were factors in this crash. Officials say charges are pending from lab results and the crash reconstruction.
