The Boone County Coroner's office confirms it took away a body from a scene in Florence where a shooting took place Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased man was taken away in a coroner’s vehicle around 8:50 p.m.
The shooting happened Wednesday sometime before 4 p.m. in the 100 block of Patty Lane, according to Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
Gunshots were fired in a case being handled by the U.S. Marshals Service, the sheriff’s office said.
The US Marshals Service is the enforcement arm of the federal courts, involved in virtually every federal law enforcement initiative, according to its website. The agency's duties include protecting the federal judiciary and apprehending federal fugitives. They also manage and sell seized assets acquired by criminals through illegal activities, house and transport federal prisoners, and operate the Witness Security Program.
Boone and other Northern Kentucky counties are under the jurisdiction of the Eastern District of Kentucky office of the US Marshals. The district is headed by Norman E. Arflack, who was appointed in 2018.
Kentucky State Police was also at the scene and is handling the investigation.
The scene cleared Wednesday night and no other information was released.
