FC Cincinnati's Luciano Acosta has been named to the MLS Team of the Week for the third time in 2021 for his performance against Toronto FC, league officials announced Monday.
FC Cincinnati defeated Toronto FC, 2-0, Saturday at Exploria Stadium, and Acosta was a big reason why FCC was able to earn the result.
In the 68th minute with FC Cincinnati leading 1-0 but Toronto threatening, Acosta dribbled past MLS And U.S. men's national team veteran Michael Bradley and subsequently scored.
The goal effectively clinched the win for FCC, head coach Jaap Stam said afterward.
"It's a very important goal, especially at that moment as well, to score the second one," Stam said on Saturday. "Like I said before, you mentioned it as well, it kills the game a little bit because it gives the opposition a feeling as well that 'OK, this is going to be very hard to get back into the game.' They tried to do it at times but you can see it makes it more difficult. The belief is going away a little bit more as well and it's an exceptional goal. Great move getting away from Bradley to curl it in the far corner. He has the ability of doing that and Lucho's been important for us in how he can play, what he can do with his quality not only for himself but also what he can do to create for others."

Acosta went the full 90 minutes against Toronto, firing off three shots and completing better than 89 percent of his passes.
Acosta was received Team of the Week recognition for his role in FC Cincinnati's 1-0 win against Chicago Fire FC at Soldier Field Wednesday., as well as following the club's April 17 season-opener against Nashville SC.
FC Cincinnati continues league play Saturday at Houston Dynamo FC.
