Oakland A’s sign ex-Reds pitcher to minor-league deal

Free-agent pitcher Homer Bailey, a first-round draft pick of the Reds in 2004 who pitched for Cincinnati from 2007 to 2018, signed a minor-league deal with the Oakland Athletics.

Bailey made 13 appearances - all of them starts - for the A's in 2019, posting a 6-3 record and 4.30 ERA with a 1.200 WHIP.

Bailey was selected for USA Baseball's roster in the recent Summer Olympics baseball qualifier.

Bailey, who turned 35 last month, last pitched in Major League Baseball for the Minnesota Twins last season. He posted a 3.38 ERA in eight innings over two starts. He was released by the Twins last September.

Bailey, who has never pitched against the Reds, signed as a free agent with the Twins in Dec. 2019.

Bailey pitched for the Reds for the first 12 seasons of his big-league career, going 67-77 with a 4.56 ERA and 1.377 WHIP in 212 starts. He threw no-hitters for the Reds in Sept. 2012 against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park and in July 2013 against the San Francisco Giants at Great American Ball Park.
