Alyssa Wray, NKU student, in top 24

Perryville, Ky. native Alyssa Wray will be sen on the next American Idol auditions n Los Angeles, California; San Diego, California; and Ojai, California, as the all-star judging panel searches for the next superstar on a brand-new episode airing Sunday, March 7 (8-10 p.m. EST), on ABC.

Northern Kentucky University student Alyssa Wray made it into the "American Idol" top 24 on Sunday night.

Wray, an 18-year-old music theater major at NKU, performed the song "I'm Here" from The Color Purple with a live band during Sunday night's Showstopper round.

The Perryville, Kentucky, native moved on to the next round after receiving a standing ovation from the judges. 

"Most emotional moment in my life thus far thank you @katyperry @lionelrichie @lukebryan and @americanidol thank you from the bottom of my heart," Wray said in a post on Instagram. 

American Idol airs at 8 p.m. Sundays and Mondays on WCPO, the local ABC affiliate station. Episodes can also be streamed on Hulu, YouTube TV and ABC's website.
