A teenager died at the hospital after an apparent medical incident at a Princeton High School sports field Thursday night, officials said.
Ethan Jovani Trejo, a 16-year-old soccer player, collapsed on the field during conditioning, Princeton City Schools superintendent Tom Burton said in a Friday statement. The athletic trainer administered lifesaving procedures, including CPR, immediately until an ambulance arrived.
A 911 caller reported the teen was down and collapsed, had a seizure and stopped breathing after a scrimmage around 8:20 p.m.
The caller said they were using an automated external defibrillator, a device that monitors vital signs and is capable of delivering shocks to restart a heart that has stopped beating.
"You guys need to hurry up," he told the dispatcher.
A Sharonville medical unit and police responded. Ethan was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in Liberty Township, and school officials said he died about an hour later.
