Suspect charged after pointing gun at officers, initiating pursuit in Northern Kentucky


A man has been arrested and charged after allegedly pointing a gun at officers in Walton and leading police on a chase that ended with an exchange of gunfire in Newport.The Boone County Sheriff's Office said Jacob Roberts, 24, of Covington was discharged from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and booked into the Hamilton County Jail on Friday.Officials said around 4 a.m. June 13, deputies were dispatched for a drug complaint at a gas station on Mary Grubbs Highway in Walton.Police said during the course of the investigation, Roberts was asked to step out of a vehicle. When he exited the car, he pointed a handgun directly in the face of one deputy.Officials said that deputy sustained minor injuries when he fell to the ground to deflect the gun.Police said Roberts then pointed the gun at a sergeant on scene and ran away. He was then picked up by another vehicle.That vehicle was then involved in a pursuit through Kenton County, which ended with an exchange of gunfire in Newport.Roberts is charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, two counts of wanton endangerment, fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and possession of marijuana.Roberts is held on a $250,000 bond. He will soon be extradited to Kentucky.
