Cincinnati accepting artist submissions for streetcar design contest

The city of Cincinnati is asking local artists to compete in a design contest to update the streetcar's exterior. The winner will be announced in February.

The city of Cincinnati is looking for a new design for the streetcar's façade and it's asking local artists to take up the challenge.

City officials, Cincinnati Bell and ArtsWave are asking local artists to submit applications to design a new exterior wrap for the streetcar, according to a news release. The selected artist will receive a $2,500 grant.

“As the arts connect us, so does the Cincinnati Bell Connector,” Travis Jeric, Cincinnati's streetcar director said in a release. “We’re excited to see the creativity of our local artists and how they reflect the theme.”

Officials say the new exterior design is part of Cincinnati Bell's sponsorship and comes at no cost to the city. It's also meant to compliment the arts-theme design unveiled during the streetcar's five-year annivers

Online submissions from regional artists are being accepted for the design contest through Jan. 9, the release states. The public will vote for the top three designs with an evaluation committee selecting the winner in mid-January.

The winning design will be announced on Feb. 2 at Music Hall during ArtsWave's annual fundraising campaign kickoff.
