Police: Suspect shot following SWAT standoff in Covington
A man was shot following an hours-long standoff, according to Covington Police Public Information Officer Lt. Col. Valenti.The man, who was barricaded inside a home, is accused of firing shots at police in Covington Thursday evening.The incident began on Frazier Street in the Latonia neighborhood around 8:30 p.m.Valenti said officers were dispatched to the home for the report of a suicidal subject with a gun. When officers arrived, they were greeted by a barrage of bullets and took cover.No officers were shot.SWAT responded to the scene and surrounded the home. After trying to get the subject to exit the home, officers breached the door around midnight.The suspect was shot and taken to UC Medical Center. The extent of his injuries is unknown. He was the only person in the house at the time of the incident.A man who lives across the street from the home involved told WLWT bullets have broken two of his windows and he, his nephew and his dog took shelter in his home."When I come in, I could see my blinds was laying on the floor. And there was a hole on the door," the neighbor said. Several blocks around Frazier Street were blocked off with crime tape. Valenti said the suspect could face a number of charges, including attempted murder on a police officer. Kentucky State Police is taking over the investigation.This is a developing story.
