Ohio zoo mourns loss of 17-year-old giraffe


Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is mourning the loss of its 17-year-old giraffe.The zoo announced that Bo, its Masai giraffe, was euthanized Thursday after experiencing a recent decline in health.Bo was Cleveland's oldest giraffe. He was also Cleveland's tallest giraffe at nearly 17-feet tall. This made him a fan favorite for visitors at giraffe encounters.Zoo officials said they'll perform a necropsy to fully understand the giraffe's underlying health issues. Bo came to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo in 2017."Bo was an incredible ambassador to his species and his memory will live on through his two offspring at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, Kidogo and Kendi, as well as through continued global conservation efforts to protect giraffe species as their populations decline across Africa," the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo wrote on Facebook.
