The global soccer community moves forward at a ceaseless pace, but Christian Eriksen's medical emergency brought it to a halt during a UEFA Euro 2020 group-stage match Saturday.
In the wake of Eriksen's collapse and subsequent on-field medical treatment during the match between Denmark and Finland, multiple authorities confirmed Eriksen had been stabilized.
The FC Cincinnati and Major League Soccer communities reacted to the news of Eriksen's emergency with well-wishes for the Danish player.
"Our thoughts are with you, your family and your teammates, Christian," FC Cincinnati's tweet read. "Sending well wishes."
Many clubs and soccer associations from around the world issued similar sentiments of support.
During a moment in play away from the ball in Saturday's match, Eriksen collapsed during the first half of the contest. As Eriksen received medical attention, his teammates formed a circle around him.
The match was suspended as a result of the situation.
UEFA and the Danish football association both announced Eriksen was stabilized.
“Following the medical emergency involving Denmark’s player Christian Eriksen, a crisis meeting has taken place with both teams and match officials and further information will be communicated at 19:45 CET," UEFA officials said in a statement. "The player has been transferred to the hospital and has been (stabilized).”
Officials with the Denmark men's national team stated in a tweet that Eriksen was awake and undergoing further examinations.
