Two Northern Kentucky baseball teams have entered the statewide top 25 poll compiled by the Prep Baseball Report. None were included in the preseason state poll.
Covington Catholic debuted at No. 20 after a 7-0 start to the season in which the Colonels have outscored foes by an average of 13-2 and have scored 11 or more runs in each game.
Jaden Siemer, Pete Williams and Sam France are all hitting .471 in the opening seven games, and Siemer has nine RBI. Tyler Hutson has 14 RBI and Owen Nally 11. Hutson and Siemer have two wins on the mound and ERAs under 2.00, and Hutson has 19 strikeouts in eight innings.
Highlands debuted at No. 25. The Bluebirds who won the Ninth Region every season from 2015-18, are off to a 3-3 start.
Beechwood and Ryle are considered on the bubble by the Prep Baseball Report, a ranking made by experts. Beechwood, the reigning Ninth Region champion from 2019, was off to a 7-1 start before losing to St. Henry in the all “A” 9th Region final Monday night. Brett Holladay has an 0.64 ERA in two starts and has eight RBI and six steals on offense. Ryle is 4-3.

No local softball teams are in the top 25 state poll by Kentucky Prep Softball, who compiles a poll of coaches around the state. A total of 23 coaches voted in this week’s poll.
Northern Kentucky teams receiving votes include Dixie Heights, Pendleton County, Highlands, Cooper, Brossart, Ryle and Boone County.
