ST. LOUIS – Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell hasn’t named a closer, and he probably won’t all season, but Lucas Sims’ role over the past two weeks has been the closest thing to it.
Sims has earned five saves in his last six appearances, including three when the Reds swept the St. Louis Cardinals in their four-game series over the weekend at Busch Stadium.
It’s not so much the title that matters to Sims, but he wants the ball in his hand with the game on the line.
Doc:By saying nothing, Jesse Winker says everything about his hitting success
“Whether it’s the ninth, eighth, seventh, whatever it is, ultimately, you’re just going out there and trying to do your job, not give up runs and keep us in the ballgame,” Sims said. “Either win the ballgame or keep us in it. Nothing really changes, just sometimes you make the last out.”
