Mason student reads poem at Memorial Day ceremony to honor those who sacrificed for our country

The city of Mason held a Memorial Day ceremony Monday.Mason Schools student Sarvina Heher read a poem called "Because of Them" to honor those who sacrificed for our country.Here's the poem:To this day we thank them so, for in wars, they fought our foe. To us, they throw the torch. Hold it high, they say. Oh, we will. We will fight in their name. Still, and silent they lie, underneath the ground, with thanks from friends and family, for they know without them, this land would not be free. Flowers, and other things are left outside their grace, for without them, this land would not be the same today. Thy sacrificed their lives, to fight off enemies, for us they even left their families, and even if they played only a small part, they were still an item in the cart. We should thank them not just today, for without them, we would not be the same way.The ceremony also included a 21 gun salute by members of the American Legion.
