On a typical Memorial Day weekend, Fifth Street in downtown Cincinnati would have been lined up with dozens of tables from local food trucks to fine dining restaurants and bustling crowds out to savor the best regional cuisine at the Taste of Cincinnati culinary festival.
While the tradition isn’t back on this year, we have great news: it is officially returning for Memorial Day weekend 2022. (Maybe even sooner, according to Brendon Cull, executive VP and chief strategy officer for the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber. "Stay tuned" for more on that, he said.)
In lieu of holding the annual event, Taste of Cincinnati organized the “All Winter Long” program, which distributed grants to food establishments around the city through the 2020-2021 winter season. The program was funded by the City of Cincinnati through a collaboration with the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber Foundation, and certainly met its goal of stimulating the local food economy.
“Taste of Cincinnati 'All Winter Long' was a fantastic success,” Cull said. “We helped more than 270 restaurants and bars. We estimate the program saved 3,000 jobs and had a $7 million impact on the industry.”
What comes next? Taste of Cincinnati “All Summer Long,” a new $4 million grant program that will continue offering financial support to local dining spots that will begin accepting applications in the coming weeks.
