Former University of Cincinnati basketball standout Kenny Satterfield has been named the head boys basketball coach at Hughes High School. Hughes is located across the street from the UC campus in Clifton.
Hughes announced the hire Wednesday night.
Satterfield, 40, played for UC during the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 seasons. In the 1999-2000 season, he averaged nine points and a team-high 5.4 assists per game for the Bearcats, who finished 29-4 for the season.
The Bearcats missed out on a potential national championship bid that year when National Player of the Year Kenyon Martin broke his leg during the conference tournament. UC lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
After the 2001 season, Satterfield declared for the draft and spent the next two seasons in the National Basketball Association, playing for Denver and Philadelphia. He averaged 4.3 points and 2.3 assists in 75 total games.
He has been an AAU coach in recent years, leading a team to an AAU national championship in 2017. He has been a full-time teaching aide in the Oak Hills School District since September.
