13 Cincinnati public pools to open this summer, 4 starting Memorial Day weekend

THAT’S A SMALL EXTRA STEP THEY’RE WILLING TO TAKE FOR THEIR KIDS TO ENJOY A NORMAL SUMMER AGA -- SHERRI CEVALIER MOVED TO CINCINNATI WITH HER FOUR-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER LAST YEAR AMID A PANDEMIC, AND JUST DAYS BEFORE MANY PLAYGROUNDS AND OUTDOOR POOLS CLOSED. >> YOU KNOW IT WAS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTING CONSIDERING IT WAS THE HEIGHT OF THE SUMMER, SO H AND SHE DID NOT HAVE MUCH TO DO. HELENA: NOT MUCH TO DO FOR A VIBRANT LITTLE GIRL LOOKING FO ADVENTURE AND FRIENDS. BUT THIS SUMMER PARENTS LIKE CEVALIER ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO THEIR KIDS BEING ABLE TO SPLASH AROUND TOGETHER AGAIN. >> I’M EXCITED ABOUT THE POOL OPENING AND IT BEING SO CLOSE WE’RE JUST AROUND THE BLOCK. HELENA: THE CINCINNATI RECREATION COMMISSION ANNOUNCING 13 POOLS WILL BE OPEN THIS SUMMER FOUR OF THEM DUNHAM, MCKIE, PLEASANT RIDGE AND HIRSCH SET TO OPEN THIS COMING WEEKEND. >> THIS PAST YEAR HAS JUST BEEN SO CRAZY, AND I THINK IT’S IMPORTANT FOR THE KIDS TO GET OUT, BE AROUND OTHER KIDS, HAVE FUN. HELENA: SEVERAL PUBLIC PLAYGROUNDS AND POOLS DID CLOSE FOR A LITTLE LAST YEAR. SOME GRADUALLY REOPENED AND TIMES YOU COULD VISIT THE POOL WERE LIMITED. THIS YEAR, YOU’LL STILL NEED TO MAKE A RESERVATION. THERE WILL BE TWO THREE-HOUR SWIM BLOCKS AT EACH POOL WITH A HALF HOUR BREAK IN BETWEEN FOR CLEANING. THE POOLS WILL OPEN AT NOON ON THE WEEKEND, WITH A SELECT FEW OPEN SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. >> I’M VERY EXCITED FOR THE KIDS TO HAVE SOMETHING TO DO BESIDES RUN AROUND AND FROLIC IN THE GRASS. HELENA: RAFEVEL GREEN HAS WORKED AT THE MCKIE RECREATION CENTER FOR TWO YEARS ONE OF THE PLACES KIDS WILL BE ABLE TO SWIM MONDAY THROUGH SUNDAY HE’S EXPECTING THIS TO BE BUSY. >> I THINK AROUND HERE THERE’ NOT A LOT TO DO SO THERE’S ALWAYS LINES OF PEOPLE OUT HERE WAITING. AND IF YOU DON’T CALL BEFORE YOU WONT GET ON THE WAITING LIST. HELENA: AS A LIBERATION FOR THESE POOLS OPENING WILL TAKE PLACE THIS COMING SATURDAY AT 11:30 AT THE RECREATION CENTER.

It's already feeling like summer, and soon, kids in Cincinnati will have a way to cool off.The Cincinnati Recreation Commission announced 13 pools will be open this summer. Four of them, Dunham, Mckie, Pleasant Ridge and Hirsch, set to open this coming weekend.Several public playgrounds and pools did close for a little last year. Some gradually reopened, and times you could visit the pool were limited.This year, you'll still need to make a reservation. There will be two 3-hour swim blocks at each pool, with a half-hour break in between for cleaning.The pools will open at noon on the weekend, with a select few open seven days a week.Rafevel Green has worked at the Mckie Recreation Center for two years, one of the places kids will be able to swim Monday through Sunday.He's expecting it to be busy."I think around here there's not much to do, so there's always lines of people out here waiting and if you don't call before, you won't get on the waiting list," Green said.For the pools opening this coming weekend, reservations will be taken starting Wednesday, May 26. For the rest of the pools, reservations will begin Friday, June 4.You can make reservations here.
