A student athlete at the University of Cincinnati has died after an apparent drowning at East Fork State Park, state officials said.
Women's soccer player Ally Sidloski, of Strongsville, Ohio, died on Saturday at the age of 21, according to a release from University of Cincinnati's Department of Athletics.
A spokesperson with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources confirmed that Sidloski's body was recovered Sunday morning at William H. Harsha Lake in Clermont County.
The ODNR said Sidloski was hanging off a swim platform attached to a boat when she fell into the lake on Saturday. Her body was found around 1 a.m. on Sunday.
Officials said she was not wearing a life jacket.
University officials said Sidloski recently completed her sophomore soccer season, though because of an injury, she was unable to play during the 2020 season, which took place during the spring of 2021.
"I am absolutely crushed for the Sidloski family, our soccer team and the University," soccer head coach Neil Stafford said in a statement. "There's no words for dealing with a tragedy on this scale. Ally was such a pillar of everything that's right about our program."
Sidloski was also a high-performing student in the classroom, having earned recognition for achieving a 4.0 GPA in multiple semesters.
Her collegiate debut was against East Carolina University in 2019 and she played in the university's American Athletic Conference Tournament opener against Southern Methodist University, the release states.
Sidloski was the third member of her family to play collegiate-level soccer.
She is survived by her parents David and Tracie, as well as her two sisters, Katie and Nicole.
"Our Bearcats family has suffered an extreme loss," Director of Athletics John Cunningham said in a statement. "We send all our prayers, love and support to the Sidloski family and will do everything we can to support them and our student-athletes as we all process and work through this tragedy."
