Trial date scheduled for Butler County mother accused of killing 6-year-old

Brittany Gosney, 29, arraigned on murder charges, as well as abuse of corpse and tampering of evidence in death of son, James Hutchinson, 6.

A murder trial for Brittany Gosney, the woman accused of killing her 6-year-old son while attempting to abandon her children, has been scheduled for September.

Butler County Common Pleas Judge Noah Powers set Sept. 20 as the date for the trial to begin.

It was initially scheduled to start Monday, but that date was vacated. It is not uncommon for attorneys to take many months to prepare for a murder trial and the date could be moved again.

At least one more hearing in the case is scheduled before September.

Gosney, 29, is accused of hog-tying her three children and attempting to abandon them Feb. 26 in a Preble County park where they had taken family trips in the past.

Police said that James grabbed the door handle of the van as Gosney tried to speed away. He fell, suffered a head trauma and died, officials reported.
