Billy Price’s days in Cincinnati figure to be winding down.
As expected, the Bengals have declined to pick up Price’s fifth-year option, a source informed The Enquirer. The 2018 first-round pick is set to become a free agent after the season.
Price’s had an underwhelming time in his first three seasons as an interior lineman in Cincinnati. He started 10 games at center as a rookie. In 2019, he lost a training camp position battle at center to Trey Hopkins. He was then assigned to be the team’s utility interior lineman. The 6-foot-4 lineman eventually saw action at all three interior line positions for the Bengals. He played in all 16 games in each of the last two seasons, collecting nine starts. However, he only received one start at his natural center position.
The offensive lineman was on the field for just 208 snaps last year, the fewest amount in his career.
Entering 2021, Price is excited to be reunited with offensive line coach Frank Pollack, who the Bengals brought back this offseason, but he’s looking forward to a fresh start elsewhere after his contract expires.
The Bengals selected Price with the 21st overall pick in the 2018 draft. He’s appeared in 42 games and has 19 starts.
