Pitcher Sal Romano, designated for assignment by the Reds earlier this month after he pitched in 83 games over five big-league seasons in Cincinnati, was signed by the New York Yankees to a minor-league deal and assigned to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
From the RailRiders via Twitter:
Romano, 27, elected free agency after clearing waivers. He posted a 5.23 ERA in 14 appearances for the Reds this season, and a 5.15 ERA for the team since his debut for Cincinnati in 2017. He was selected by the Reds in the 23rd round of the 2011 draft.
Reds manager David Bell said the following about Romano, per The Enquirer's Bobby Nightengale:
"It’s never easy losing a friend and a great teammate," Bell said. "He’s spent his whole career here and has some of his best friends here, so tough for him. I do know it could lead to a good opportunity. We’ll wish nothing but the best for Sal, but also thank him for all the contributions he’s made here to the Reds on and off the field."
