ORLANDO – FC Cincinnati is bolstering its depth at the goalkeeping position after the Friday acquisition of Kenneth Vermeer.
Vermeer, 35, of the Netherlands, will join FC Cincinnati, which completed a waiver-claim acquisition of the player on Friday, according to Major League Soccer sources.
Vermeer played a significant role in Los Angeles FC's 2020 season, starting eight league matches in addition to five Concacaf Champions League matches including the final.

Vermeer and LAFC mutually agreed to terminate the player's contract earlier this month.
Vermeer's addition to an FC Cincinnati goalkeeping corps, which already included an injured Przemysław Tytoń, Cody Cropper, Ben Lundt and Beckham Sunderland, isn't expected to alter the club's plans for its match on Saturday at Orlando City.
However, Vermeer could play a role in the team in the weeks to come.
FC Cincinnati doesn't have a game during the week of May 2 but will christen its brand new TQL Stadium May 16 against Inter Miami.
An Amsterdam native, Vermeer amassed a handful of senior national team caps for his home country and a trophy case's worth of Dutch soccer silverware during his career.
Vermeer's also made stops at some of the biggest clubs in his home country.
Vermeer's most recent stop at a Dutch club prior to coming to MLS was during the 2019-20 season at Feyenoord, which was then manager by current FC Cincinnati head coach Jaap Stam's former manager, Dick Advocaat.
Vermeer's also played for Willem, Ajax and Belgian side Club Brugge prior making the move to MLS.
At Ajax, Vermeer played in 103 league matches, nine UEFA Cup games, four Europa League games, and 13 Champions League matches.
