The Lexington Legends, a member South Division of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, announced Tuesday that former Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips has joined the team's ownership group.
"Everybody knows Brandon for his all-star games, gold gloves, and the passion he has on the field," Andy Shea, President and CEO of the Legends said in a press release. "What some people may not know is Brandon is also an amazing father who lives life with a family first mindset, and has an incredible baseball and business network. This all fits perfectly with the Lexington Legends."
“I’m really honored for this opportunity to become part owner of the Lexington Legends,” Phillips said in the press release. “I’ve got so much to give to this game. Last year, working with Andy showed me how to run a business and that became one of my goals. I know what it takes to win and for me to be able to build my portfolio off the field is a blessing. I love this city of Lexington and the people of the Tri-State community.”
Phillips played 11 seasons with the Reds, collecting 1,774 hits, 191 home runs and 194 stolen bases in addition to three All-Star Game appearances and four Gold Gloves. He last played with the Boston Red Sox in 2018, appearing in nine games.
