Screams of delight sound again as Kings Island reopens for 2021 season

The 2021 season is underway at Kings Island, returning the screams of delight and the smiles of visitors.Nikki Miller of Mt. Healthy said she and her family have been anxious to get back to their favorite thrill rides and attractions.“It's been a long time. It's been a long hard year," Miller said. "We’ve been waiting to come, and definitely good without masks." As the gates opened, mask-wearing guests and those without were welcomed with wide-eyed wonder to the Warren County theme park. Martin Link said Orion is his new favorite.“I am super excited to be one of the first ones to walk into the park this year, especially with no mask," Link said. "It's so freeing after last year, being able to ride the rides and everything.” Last year’s COVID-19 mask and social distancing restrictions hid some of the guest excitement. This year, guests in outdoor areas will not have to wear a mask. As Ohio loosens CDC and state coronavirus restrictions, the park will follow those less stringent guidelines as well. Chad Showalter, Director of Kings Island Public Relations, said opening day is a special day for guest and associates.“We knew last year they were smiling underneath their face coverings, but to see their smiles today as they came through the front gate, seeing the tower and hearing the music, you know its going to be a special season here at Kings Island,” Showalter said.A mix of new attractions and nostalgic favorites will welcome guests who may not have made the trip to the park last year.“For a lot of people, they weren't able to come to the park in 2020, so Orion, our Giga coaster, is still new to them, Showalter said. And while the thrills and chills of Orion may be new, for many, the highlight will be seeing an uncovered laugh and smile again.A verbal health assessment is conducted as guests enter the park. Reservations are no longer required to enter. Soak City Water Park will, however, maintain a limited capacity when operations begin on Memorial Day.
