Cincy Salad Week celebrates leafy greens with deals, prizes

More than 20 local restaurants around the city are preparing to participate in the first Cincy Salad Week, a celebration of all leafy green medleys.

The inaugural salad week, which will run from May 17-23, was first posted and promoted by local food bloggerKayla Hansmann, of CincyFitFoodie, and will feature a variety of "some of the city's favorite salads."

How it works

Event organizers will track social media check-ins, tagged locations, public posts and the hashtags #cincysaladweek #showusyoursalad on Instagram throughout the week to find the salad with the most votes.

There are also prizes: the person that shares the most from restaurants on social media and the winner voted with the most creative homemade salad will both win $100 gift cards to Kroger.

The week will end with a "salad sendoff" at 10 a.m. May 23 in Dogwood Park in Mariemont, where health and wellness participants will have booths and the winners of the social media competitions will be announced.

There's also an official @CincySaladWeek Instagram account, showcasing some of the participating restaurants and tips on how to make a salad at home. 

How it started

Hansmann is the voice behind the CincyFitFoodie blog, a project she first started in 2017. A dietitian and nutritionist, Hansmann said she wanted to bring a salad appreciation week to Cincinnati in the same style as burger or taco weeks as a way to spotlight local restaurants, their salads and seasonal ingredients. 

May is also National Salad Month, and Hansmann said she could not think of a better way to celebrate one of her favorite foods and bring on the summer.
